Five good reasons to change to winter wheels

One of those is the reduction of the stopping distance

There are many accidents on the Spanish roads all along the wintertime. Some of them could have been avoided if the drivers would use the appropriate tires for the season they are driving. In this post, we will talk about the advantages of using winter tires instead of the traditional ones.

It is important to bear in mind that under 7ºC, the tires –the only point in contact between the car and the road– harden, so they lose the efficiency in terms of grip and maneuverability. This loss of adhesion provokes that the braking distance on 50 km/h can be multiplied

  • Dry surface: 8 metres.
  • Wet surface: 16 metres.
  • With snow: 32 metres.
  • With ice: Up to 64 metres!

That is the difference in between having an accident or not.

The winter tires offer plenty of advantages in regard to the conventionals, also called “summer tyres”:

  • Increase of the security: On wet surface the breaking distance is reduced in 6 metres in comparison with the summer tyres
  • More tranquility: our vehicle will always be ready for any weather conditions or road states.
  • Better response of the vehicle: eKit up the two axes with winter tires gives the vehicle more stability.
  • Comfort: Dangerous situations like setting the chains are avoided. The Traffic regulation (DGT) exempts us from the use of chains if we have Winter tires.
  • Great and useful investment: You set them up in the Winter, stored them in the summer and your car is always fully equipped for every station.
